Andy Warhol

'Leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art' - wiki.He is an icon, inspiration, unique, different, creative, impressive, weird, controversial, cool, high profile, low profile, prolific....and I like his work. My surfboard looked plain, so I put him and one of his infamous quotes on it ("an artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have") ~ I like it.

concept in terms of graphic design

Concept for graphic design
“concept” in terms of graphic design:
Concept is the way the designers form visual ideas. The concepts designers use result in communicating ideas and messages , this is usually done with a combination of text and graphic images to design logos, graphics, brochures, newsletters, posters, signs, and any other form of visual communication.

Graphic designers create visual identities, generally for business’, this helps establish their company. The ideas and concepts used in the design behind the visual appearances of the companies logos and advertisements help build the business’ reputation and label them with it.

Sticker City: paper graffiti art

review:
The book explores the street art style of works of art on paper, glued to city surfaces. Claudia Walde gives an insight into this rising trend of this graffiti movement. Numerous pictures show the appearance of sticker art on walls, phone booths, curbs, traffic signs etc. (basically any public space), I think, when the pasted artworks are not over crowded with lots of other sticker art it is more effective and provokes a response from the nest onlooker. However its can look crappy if not much effort applied and can have a scungy appearance when weathered.

Claudia Walde, a graffiti artist herself, examines and displays the styles history and leading figures, such as, Shepard Fairey (obey), Blek le Rat's stencil graffiti and Rev's sticker flood in New Yok, in 1990's. Apart from various artist biographies, Walde looks into sticker art techniques used otday, which is incredibly interesting. The book shows the progression of the movement and concludes with a look into the future. The unique art inspires me and my design ideas. I can relate to the frequent stencil technique used in he book, as I have had a go doing it myself.
